Most "free" PDF to Excel tools upload your documents to their servers, cap your usage, and push you toward a paid plan. Here's how we're different.
Comparison reflects free-tier behavior of common online PDF-to-Excel services as of 2025. Features and pricing change frequently — verify directly with each vendor before relying on this for procurement decisions.
Your documents are sensitive. We built this tool with privacy as a non-negotiable.
All processing happens locally in your browser
Zero data transmission — your files never touch a server

Yes, completely free with no hidden fees, no file limits, and no watermarks. We built this as a genuinely useful tool — no premium tier or credit card required.
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF files are never sent to any server — they stay on your device from start to finish.
PDFs with structured tabular data (invoices, reports, financial statements, data exports) work best. The converter detects tables, columns, and rows automatically. Text-heavy PDFs without tables will be extracted as plain text.
Yes! You can upload and convert multiple PDF files simultaneously. Each file becomes a separate sheet in the output Excel workbook, or you can export them individually.
This tool works best with digitally-created PDFs (not scanned images). Scanned PDFs require OCR (optical character recognition), which is not currently supported. For scanned documents, we recommend using an OCR tool first.
The generated Excel files include styled headers, alternating row colors, auto-filters on columns, auto-fitted column widths, and proper data formatting — ready for immediate analysis.
Most converters upload your files to their servers for processing. Ours runs 100% in your browser, so your sensitive data never leaves your device. Plus, we output properly styled Excel files with headers, alternating row colors, and auto-filters — not just a raw data dump.
For digitally-generated PDFs with clear columns and consistent spacing, extraction accuracy is very high. Complex layouts — merged cells, multi-line rows, or tables that span pages — may need manual cleanup. We always recommend reviewing the output before relying on it for financial or legal decisions.
There are no hard limits we impose, but because everything runs in your browser, very large PDFs (hundreds of pages, or very image-heavy files) may take longer to process or hit your browser's memory limits. For most invoices, statements, and reports under 50 pages, conversion is near-instant.
No. You'll need to remove the password from the PDF first using Adobe Acrobat, Preview (Mac), or another PDF tool. Once unlocked, you can convert it here normally. We don't support encrypted PDFs to keep the tool simple and avoid any perception that we're storing credentials.
We do our best to detect and apply appropriate number formatting in the output. However, because PDFs store everything as positioned text (not typed data), formatting detection is heuristic — review numeric columns after conversion and apply Excel formatting if anything looks off.
Yes. Because all processing happens in your browser, no data is transmitted to us, our servers, or any third party. Your bank statement is just as private when you convert it here as when you open it in your PDF reader. This is a deliberate design choice — we believe sensitive documents should never touch a server.
Yes, freely. There's no commercial-use restriction, no per-document license, and no attribution requirement. Convert as much as you need for client work, internal projects, or anything else.
This tool is built and maintained by Sona, a B2B data platform that helps teams turn scattered data into connected growth. We created this free tool because we kept seeing customers manually rekey data from PDFs into spreadsheets — and we wanted to fix at least the simple version of that problem for everyone.
This free tool is great for ad-hoc conversions. But if you're pulling data out of PDFs every week — invoices into your accounting system, statements into a financial model, supplier reports into a dashboard — that's where Sona comes in.
Set up recurring ingestion pipelines that pull PDF data from email, drives, or shared folders — no manual uploads.
Send extracted data straight to HubSpot, Salesforce, NetSuite, Snowflake, or any tool your team already uses — no more "export to Excel, then import again."
Turn invoice trends, expense patterns, and sales reports into dashboards your team actually uses — without an army of analysts.
Trusted by B2B teams who treat data as a growth lever, not a chore.
